Who I am vs. Who I was

I've been thinking about who I am a lot lately... I was 21 years old when I got married, and in the past 2 years, I've changed a lot. But is that necessarily a bad thing? I shouldn't be expected to stay the same way I was, right? I mean, I'm basically still a child. I'm still learning about life, about myself. I'm sorry that I'm not the same person I was then, but...should I have to apologize for that? What person stays the exact same way their whole life?

I've changed my hair. I've gotten tattoos. I've gotten piercings. My views have changed. My attitude has changed. My taste for music, food, and art has changed. But isn't that what life is about? Experiencing everything in your own unique way?

I don't want to look back on my life and feel held back by the people around me. I don't criticize, analyze, or judge you for your preferences. So why would you do that to me? Why did you expect me to not change? And why are you so disappointed in the person I'm "becoming"? I still treat people with respect. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I work hard, love to the extreme, and enjoy the simple things of life. To me, it seems like the major things that you should expect to stay the same, concerning me and my personality, have. How is it my fault that you expected me to keep my long, dark, boring hair the same way?...Or to wear the same drab clothing?...Or to not get interested in body art? Those were your expectations.

I read today on Tumblr that Change is the only constant.

You shouldn't have placed unrealistic expectations on me. I didn't expect you to stay exactly the same, and because I love you, if you chose to change certain things about yourself I would take an interest in them because I knew they interested you...

This is the person that I am becoming. If you don't want to tag along for the ride, then let me know now. I'm not going to give up things that interest me because you don't like them. I've never really been a "rebellious" person, but that seems pretty controlling. And I refuse to be put in a cage for the rest of my life.

Blondes May Have More Fun...

But Redheads are remembered!

Red Hair

Holy moly, my hair is RED!!!!!!!!!! And I am SO in love with it! <3 I've been changing my hair a lot lately, but I think I've finally settled for a while. I've been trying different reds for almost a year now, but I could never find the right red. ...The perfect red for me. Well, thanks to Sally's being sold out of the dye I originally intended to purchase, I found this:

Ion Color Brilliance Dark Red Blonde 6R

Hands down my favorite red hair dye. Absolutely love the color, even though the in-store swatch had me a little scared.

Red Hair

I also picked up two wefts of human hair extensions and dyed those as well. I opted for gluing them in as opposed to clips because my actual hair is still pretty short, and I was about 90% sure that I wouldn't be able to blend in the clip-ins as well as I would have liked. So..After about 3 hours of dying, and 4 hours of gluing... TA DA!

"I don't mind living in a man's world..."

"As long as I can be a woman in it." -Marilyn Monroe

Yep, my "hair" is blonde now!  (Well, my actual hair is blonde, too...just not this blonde! Haha) This is the goal with my real hair, but until it grows out, my new wig will have to get the job done. ;o)

I'll breathe again

I'm so very sorry for not updating this as regularly as I once was. However, life comes first, and change is inevitable. So, for now, I'll leave you with a song.

Even the Stars Hideaway

I'm so sorry that I haven't been updating this very regularly, but a lot of personal things have been going on that are occupying most of my time. One thing that hasn't been neglected is music. Music helps me get through each day. It soothes my mind and comforts my soul. Like hot chocolate or chicken noodle soup.

The Weepies has been my main lifeline right now. I love finding a band that has a consistent sound. It's a very fine line though because I don't like when all of the songs sound the same. Haha! Understand?

Anyway, I just began exploring their music about a month ago. I had heard the song "World Spins Madly On" a long time ago, but I didn't really give the band a second thought. I'm so glad I sought out their other songs. I haven't heard one that I didn't like...which makes me super happy.

Here are a few for you to enjoy. ;o)

Flick Friday: Double-Up on the Romance

Liz: "I'm so sick of people telling me I need a man."
Felipe: "You don't need a man, Liz. You need a champion"

I love these lines from Eat, Pray, Love. Felipe is such a gentleman. He's sweet. He's sensitive, and guess what? He's not just some fictitious character. Felipe is an actual person! Yay! If you haven't seen the movie...good! Read the book first! Such a wonderful reading experience. Then, watch the movie so you can put some faces to the people that you've just read about. ;o)

I also watched How Do You Know? last night, and I'll tell you what...I did not want to watch it. I'm so glad my husband talked me into it. :o) Paul Rudd is one of my favorite actors, and he stole my heart again in this film.

He's so innocent, and so awkward...but it's really endearing. He's definitely another gentleman. He listens. He's actually interested in what the girl of his dreams is saying...it's incredible.

Can you tell that I'm a hopeless romantic? ;o)

But the thing is....I know for a fact that this type of man exists. I've seen it. SO THERE! You can't fool me Hollywood. :oP

I guess in a way that makes me a hopeful romantic. <3  Anyway, if you haven't seen either of these movies yet, I would definitely recommend them.

Anyone else seen any GREAT movies lately???

Starting to feel like home...

We finally got some furniture for our balcony! Yay!!!

It was a lovely surprise to come home to after work last night. :o) The lights were lit up, and the flowers were so pretty! Can't wait to make some pretty pillows for the chairs!

Oh my goodness! I also found this really awesome clothing store.

Can someone please tell me why I've never heard of this before?!!? It's literally 5 minutes from my house. It has super cute clothes, and I didn't see a single item in there that was more than $19.99. It was incredible.

Check out this amazing chambray dress I found for $10.

I talked myself out of buying it, but I'm seriously regretting that decision. I mean.....it's $10. I may have to go back later this week and pick it up. I just don't think I can pass on this one.

I also found this bomber-esque looking jacket. Also $10. So, who knows what will happen with that. ;o) Haha.

*Sigh* I need a shopping spree sometime in the near future. Replenish my wardrobe. ;o) For those prices?...How can you beat it?

Anyone else find any good deals this weekend?

It's better to burn out than to fade away...

My, my...hey, hey. It's been a.....weird week. Well, it's almost been a week since I last posted. A lot has happened. Good, bad, and everything in between. At times, I've felt like Alice falling up through a rabbit hole.
(May get this tattooed on me somewhere...)

I know this is going to sound terrible, but I've basically just been trying to survive each day. I should enjoy each moment and make the most of every opportunity, but honestly, sometimes that's just really hard for me. I'm not going to dive very deeply into this topic, but I will say that, at one point in time, I was diagnosed with depression. I've seen counselors, been on meds, etc... One of the things I've learned during my struggle with this disease is that people with depression aren't just seeking attention. We don't want to be pessimistic or ruin everyone else's day with our problems. That's always been something that has added to my negative feelings. I don't want to upset other people, so I smile and nod and say "I'm fine". So, when I tell you that I battle depression, it's not to gain pity. It's to help you understand who I am and to help explain why I may not sound like Susie Sunshine in all of my posts. I try to be as upbeat and positive as possible, but I also can't stand faking it anymore. I'm giving myself permission to have bad days and not have to hide them. Which is a big deal for me.

So...now that I got all of that off my chest. On to the good stuff.......

Pinterest.com ...Yep, I'm bringing it up again. My interaction with this site has blown past addiction and morphed into full on obsession! I can literally spend hours on there looking up DIY crafts, sewing tutorials, decorating ideas, yummy recipes. It's crazy! I can't believe it took me so long to find out about it...

Check out these awesome tutorials I found!

Adorable skirt? Yes. Is it made out of a men's button down shirt? Yes!

Asymmetrical ruffled tee. <3

And I'm sorry....but I don't think one can ever have too many shirts with ruffles. ;o)

Isn't it funny how your tastes change throughout your life? If someone had told me that I would eventually love ruffles and sequins.....I would have literally laughed in their face. Skirts? "Yea, right!" Flowers in my hair? "You're off your rocker!" And now, I seriously can't get enough of those things. C-razy, I tell you.

I leave you with this:

"And if you fail, then you fail but not to us..."

Hope you had a great weekend.

Down with the Sickness

Man! I cannot shake this cold....or whatever it is. I thought I was about to die at work tonight, and my shift was only 5 hours! Dizzy, nauseous, throbbing headache, sinus and chest congestion. Dude...it's been over a week. Give me a break here!

Ok, my rant is over now. ;o)

Work wasn't too bad. I met a few new people, so I'm not the new kid on the block anymore. Yay! Not that it made that much of a difference. I don't think I've ever worked somewhere that had that many just generally pleasant employees. I really can't think of anyone that is a "pain" to work with. Everyone is polite and helpful. It's amazing. I'm so lucky.

Sorry that a few of the pics are blurry. I was rushing to take these before I left for work. I also didn't feel like editing them. Lazy me! (That last pic is my "I'm sick, but I'm still going to try to look good" face...haha!)

Well, I'm off to Pinterest.com. ;o) Have a great evening!

Craft Crazy

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful day so far! I'm a bit tired because I stayed up really late looking up crafting ideas, haha. ;o) I've been finding some really awesome projects on Pinterest.com. It's a wonderful website. It has tons of inspiring photos that link back to the original site. I'm like in love with it right now.

Anywho. Here are some DIY projects that I'm especially fond of...

Want to learn how to make (that's right, I said make) this awesome chandelier? (You can also see a chandelier party here.) Instructions are very clear, and it's REALLY inexpensive. I'm so trying this!

Custom color chalkboard paint anyone? Yep. Super sweet project. I love some of the ideas that are provided on this website.

Check out this recycled tee circle scarf! Looks so comfy, and I'm sure it would be cool enough to wear during the summer. Going on my "To Do" list for sure.

I can't wait to buy a house and have my own craft room! I love DIY projects, but we just don't have the space for it. I'm really not kidding. Every useable space in this apartment is filled with something. :o(  Oh well, I'm definitely looking forward to the day when I can be super-organized and super-creative all in one space... I've even been looking at design ideas for my future craft haven, haha. Maybe I'll include the craft room in my home-makeover feature.

Have some good crafting ideas/crafting websites to share? Email me or link in a comment!

FIF

I decided to switch it up a bit today. I think I like this setup a lot better. The lighting isn't as harsh, and the background shows off some green! I <3 nature. I'm not sure what kind of tree this is outside of our apartment, but when the wind blows, the leaves really rustle. It sounds so awesome. :o)

So, the "skirt" I chose today is actually a dress. I just put a plain tee over it and tucked it up under the belt. Yay for multi-purposing.

I guess I'm going to start making dinner. I think I'm going to go home-style. Fried chicken. Mashed potatoes. Fried corn. ?? Toby should be home soon. Maybe I'll let him decide on the vegetable....

P.S. Definitely in a better mood. ;o) However, I now have this song stuck in my head. Haha! Check out the lyrics.
