Even the Stars Hideaway

I'm so sorry that I haven't been updating this very regularly, but a lot of personal things have been going on that are occupying most of my time. One thing that hasn't been neglected is music. Music helps me get through each day. It soothes my mind and comforts my soul. Like hot chocolate or chicken noodle soup.

The Weepies has been my main lifeline right now. I love finding a band that has a consistent sound. It's a very fine line though because I don't like when all of the songs sound the same. Haha! Understand?

Anyway, I just began exploring their music about a month ago. I had heard the song "World Spins Madly On" a long time ago, but I didn't really give the band a second thought. I'm so glad I sought out their other songs. I haven't heard one that I didn't like...which makes me super happy.

Here are a few for you to enjoy. ;o)

My Body Monday: Get Crafty!

Oh my goodness! It's been too long since I last posted anything about tattoos. So, here we go!

I thought I would share some tattoos that I came across while pondering a subject matter that is very near and dear to my heart. Crafting!

Totally loving all of these tattoos.<3

Flick Friday: Double-Up on the Romance

Liz: "I'm so sick of people telling me I need a man."
Felipe: "You don't need a man, Liz. You need a champion"

I love these lines from Eat, Pray, Love. Felipe is such a gentleman. He's sweet. He's sensitive, and guess what? He's not just some fictitious character. Felipe is an actual person! Yay! If you haven't seen the movie...good! Read the book first! Such a wonderful reading experience. Then, watch the movie so you can put some faces to the people that you've just read about. ;o)

I also watched How Do You Know? last night, and I'll tell you what...I did not want to watch it. I'm so glad my husband talked me into it. :o) Paul Rudd is one of my favorite actors, and he stole my heart again in this film.

He's so innocent, and so awkward...but it's really endearing. He's definitely another gentleman. He listens. He's actually interested in what the girl of his dreams is saying...it's incredible.

Can you tell that I'm a hopeless romantic? ;o)

But the thing is....I know for a fact that this type of man exists. I've seen it. SO THERE! You can't fool me Hollywood. :oP

I guess in a way that makes me a hopeful romantic. <3  Anyway, if you haven't seen either of these movies yet, I would definitely recommend them.

Anyone else seen any GREAT movies lately???

Starting to feel like home...

We finally got some furniture for our balcony! Yay!!!

It was a lovely surprise to come home to after work last night. :o) The lights were lit up, and the flowers were so pretty! Can't wait to make some pretty pillows for the chairs!

Oh my goodness! I also found this really awesome clothing store.

Can someone please tell me why I've never heard of this before?!!? It's literally 5 minutes from my house. It has super cute clothes, and I didn't see a single item in there that was more than $19.99. It was incredible.

Check out this amazing chambray dress I found for $10.

I talked myself out of buying it, but I'm seriously regretting that decision. I mean.....it's $10. I may have to go back later this week and pick it up. I just don't think I can pass on this one.

I also found this bomber-esque looking jacket. Also $10. So, who knows what will happen with that. ;o) Haha.

*Sigh* I need a shopping spree sometime in the near future. Replenish my wardrobe. ;o) For those prices?...How can you beat it?

Anyone else find any good deals this weekend?

It's better to burn out than to fade away...

My, my...hey, hey. It's been a.....weird week. Well, it's almost been a week since I last posted. A lot has happened. Good, bad, and everything in between. At times, I've felt like Alice falling up through a rabbit hole.
(May get this tattooed on me somewhere...)

I know this is going to sound terrible, but I've basically just been trying to survive each day. I should enjoy each moment and make the most of every opportunity, but honestly, sometimes that's just really hard for me. I'm not going to dive very deeply into this topic, but I will say that, at one point in time, I was diagnosed with depression. I've seen counselors, been on meds, etc... One of the things I've learned during my struggle with this disease is that people with depression aren't just seeking attention. We don't want to be pessimistic or ruin everyone else's day with our problems. That's always been something that has added to my negative feelings. I don't want to upset other people, so I smile and nod and say "I'm fine". So, when I tell you that I battle depression, it's not to gain pity. It's to help you understand who I am and to help explain why I may not sound like Susie Sunshine in all of my posts. I try to be as upbeat and positive as possible, but I also can't stand faking it anymore. I'm giving myself permission to have bad days and not have to hide them. Which is a big deal for me.

So...now that I got all of that off my chest. On to the good stuff.......

Pinterest.com ...Yep, I'm bringing it up again. My interaction with this site has blown past addiction and morphed into full on obsession! I can literally spend hours on there looking up DIY crafts, sewing tutorials, decorating ideas, yummy recipes. It's crazy! I can't believe it took me so long to find out about it...

Check out these awesome tutorials I found!

Adorable skirt? Yes. Is it made out of a men's button down shirt? Yes!

Asymmetrical ruffled tee. <3

And I'm sorry....but I don't think one can ever have too many shirts with ruffles. ;o)

Isn't it funny how your tastes change throughout your life? If someone had told me that I would eventually love ruffles and sequins.....I would have literally laughed in their face. Skirts? "Yea, right!" Flowers in my hair? "You're off your rocker!" And now, I seriously can't get enough of those things. C-razy, I tell you.

I leave you with this:

"And if you fail, then you fail but not to us..."

Hope you had a great weekend.

Down with the Sickness

Man! I cannot shake this cold....or whatever it is. I thought I was about to die at work tonight, and my shift was only 5 hours! Dizzy, nauseous, throbbing headache, sinus and chest congestion. Dude...it's been over a week. Give me a break here!

Ok, my rant is over now. ;o)

Work wasn't too bad. I met a few new people, so I'm not the new kid on the block anymore. Yay! Not that it made that much of a difference. I don't think I've ever worked somewhere that had that many just generally pleasant employees. I really can't think of anyone that is a "pain" to work with. Everyone is polite and helpful. It's amazing. I'm so lucky.

Sorry that a few of the pics are blurry. I was rushing to take these before I left for work. I also didn't feel like editing them. Lazy me! (That last pic is my "I'm sick, but I'm still going to try to look good" face...haha!)

Well, I'm off to Pinterest.com. ;o) Have a great evening!

Craft Crazy

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a wonderful day so far! I'm a bit tired because I stayed up really late looking up crafting ideas, haha. ;o) I've been finding some really awesome projects on Pinterest.com. It's a wonderful website. It has tons of inspiring photos that link back to the original site. I'm like in love with it right now.

Anywho. Here are some DIY projects that I'm especially fond of...

Want to learn how to make (that's right, I said make) this awesome chandelier? (You can also see a chandelier party here.) Instructions are very clear, and it's REALLY inexpensive. I'm so trying this!

Custom color chalkboard paint anyone? Yep. Super sweet project. I love some of the ideas that are provided on this website.

Check out this recycled tee circle scarf! Looks so comfy, and I'm sure it would be cool enough to wear during the summer. Going on my "To Do" list for sure.

I can't wait to buy a house and have my own craft room! I love DIY projects, but we just don't have the space for it. I'm really not kidding. Every useable space in this apartment is filled with something. :o(  Oh well, I'm definitely looking forward to the day when I can be super-organized and super-creative all in one space... I've even been looking at design ideas for my future craft haven, haha. Maybe I'll include the craft room in my home-makeover feature.

Have some good crafting ideas/crafting websites to share? Email me or link in a comment!

I decided to switch it up a bit today. I think I like this setup a lot better. The lighting isn't as harsh, and the background shows off some green! I <3 nature. I'm not sure what kind of tree this is outside of our apartment, but when the wind blows, the leaves really rustle. It sounds so awesome. :o)

So, the "skirt" I chose today is actually a dress. I just put a plain tee over it and tucked it up under the belt. Yay for multi-purposing.

I guess I'm going to start making dinner. I think I'm going to go home-style. Fried chicken. Mashed potatoes. Fried corn. ?? Toby should be home soon. Maybe I'll let him decide on the vegetable....

P.S. Definitely in a better mood. ;o) However, I now have this song stuck in my head. Haha! Check out the lyrics.

Some Stuff

Well...I guess I'm going to start taking the bus to work. My vehicle stalled twice in rush hour traffic while I was on my way to the grocery store. Not good. I took it to Auto Zone since they do a free analysis if the "Service Engine Soon" light is on, and guess what? There were "codes" that came up on their computer that didn't register with their system. Basically, that means that there are things wrong with the engine that this program, designed to be able to explain what problems exist with any given vehicle, can't even recognize. Yea...... Oh, but they were able to tell me three of the five things that were wrong with it. *Sigh*

Some days it's so hard to have an attitude like the one described in this song.

So I've distracted myself with shopping! Not real shopping, more like World Wide Web Window shopping, haha. ;o)

Scion xA
(Photos found @ Cars.com)
I think this is quite possibly one of the cutest little cars I've ever seen! They first caught my attention in 2006 (the final year that they produced this style...bummer). The size would be perfect for maneuvering the crowded streets near my home. Plus the color is darling! (Spoken like a true female. I'm not worried about the mileage or previous owners, but gosh darn, it better be pretty!) And how cool is the dashboard?! C-razy! Maybe when we're finally able to trade in my hunk-o-junk, this will be included in the list of upgrades. ;o)  Here's to hoping!

What are you window shopping???

Gimp Tattoos

Soooo....I've been playing around with Gimp. I had it on my old desktop, but it was so ancient that I wasn't able to use over half of the features because the computer took too long to load the effects. I used to get so frustrated with it, which eventually lead to me giving up on editing my photos completely.

However, I just downloaded it on our laptop, and let me just say, I forgot how much fun it is!!! I've been searching for tutorials on different things that I've always wanted to learn how to do, and guess what? Fake tattoos was one of them. ;o) Check it out.

They don't look that realistic, but it's still fun! Practice makes perfect I suppose. I'll have to look up some more tutorials, haha! If any of you know of any good websites for Gimp tutorials, please let me know! I'm jumping in with both feet!!!

(Links for the swirls and roses are here. I don't have direct links for the chest piece or sugar skull, but the general website is here.)

May Flowers

The temperature was uh-mazing today! I had our balcony door open almost all day. I even sat outside and painted my toenails. ;o)  Oh, and while I was outside I found a little lost puppy! He was super sweet. His name was Sam, and I think he was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Sooo cute! My husband called the number on our new little friend's tag, and within 5 minutes, his owner was there to claim him. It's so nice to help out other pet owners. I know that I would be super grateful to whoever did that for me.

Anyway...on to the outfit portion of this post. Tried a few new techniques...including a few new Gimp tricks. I'll probably keep playing around with things until I get exactly what I want. This is basically just a first draft.

This was the area of our balcony that I was talking about. I actually picked probably the worst time to try to take a picture out here. The sun was shining right in my face!

Fascinator that I got on South Street.

Pale green nails. <3

So, I'm thinking that I may do some more "spring cleaning" tomorrow since my in-laws will be staying with us for a few days in about a week. The bedroom where they will be sleeping has mainly been doubling as my closet...haha! Guess I should probably remedy that situation before they get here.

Off to watch some TV with the hubby before he goes to bed!
